FMS was founded in 1983 by Betty Richards, who had a dream that Fareham might one day have its own musical theatre company performing in the town at Ferneham Hall. That dream came true in 1986, when we performed our first show at the venue. Over the years, our shows have received many nominations and awards in the Daily Echo Curtain Call Awards. Indeed The King & I, staged at Ferneham Hall in September 2011 received no less than seven nominations, resulting in four winners including "Best Musical".
Recent FMS offerings include Singin' in the Rain (March 2012) which went down a storm (!) with the audiences; the award-winning My Fair Lady in September 2012. Since June 2012, we have also staged all twelve episodes of the TV classic Fawlty Towers, and the company have received rave reviews from the local newspapers (including Jonathan Redwood winning Best Actor in a Comedy at the Daily Echo Curtain Call Awards for his portrayal of Basil Fawlty). Our March 2013 production, Summer Holiday, was a joy to behold, with outstanding performances from the younger members of FMS, some of whom were taking their first principal roles. In September 2013, we performed Gilbert & Sullivan's The Mikado, and a compilation show, "Musicals from A-Z". September 2014's The Sound of Music was brilliantly received by audiences (in January 2015 Alexandra Maclean picked up the accolade of News Guide Awards Best Amateur Actress for her sublime portrayal of Maria). Oliver! 2015 has been a fantastic year for FMS with four totally different shows. Oliver! was a resounding success with three full houses in March; the three final episodes of Fawlty Towers in June; Jekyll & Hyde was thoroughly enjoyed by both audience and cast in September and we topped the year with Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None" in November.
In March 2015 we were very excited to launch the Fareham Musical Society Youth Theatre, which has its own section on this website. Click the link above for news of our upcoming shows.
FMS now has over 80 members. The company is friendly and welcoming, and we're always seeking new people to join us, be that as a performer or in a support capacity.
We hope to see you at our next show!
